Today is my last day as co-chair of the afs3-standardization group.
I would like to congratulate Jeffrey Hutzelman our new co-chair.
I have known Jeff for years and know that he will get this group moving.

As I said last week, the main activity of this group as been to get
the first draft through the IETF Independent Submission Process.
Getting thus far has taken years, including the formation of this
group with its draft charter and many discussions within the IETF by
many of the members of this group, to convince the IETF that a
non-IETF working group could make independent submissions.

Our first draft to to the RFC editor,
  https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-brashear-afs3-pts-extended-names/
is waiting for two additional reviews, and then updates by the author.
All three of these people have been very busy with other things of higher
priority, but I am confident that our new co-chairs can keep the process
moving forward.

It has been my contention that we should get this first draft through
the Independent Submission process before submitting others drafts.
Its now up to the co-chairs if they want to take a different course of
action.

Good luck to our co-chairs Jeff and Hartmut.
