To check this I ran bonnie++ this morning on my laptop. It took quite a
while, but it finished correctly with stderr:
Writing with putc()...done
Writing intelligently...done
Rewriting...done
Reading with getc()...done
Reading intelligently...done
start 'em...done...done...done...
Create files in sequential order...done.
Stat files in sequential order...done.
Delete files in sequential order...done.
Create files in random order...done.

and stdout:

The only strange thing I saw in between was:
sh-2.05$ ls -l
insgesamt 286725

-rw-r--r-- 1 hwr users 0 Nov 29 08:47 stdout
sh-2.05$
and some time later:
sh-2.05$ ls -al

-rw-r--r-- 1 hwr users 51 Nov 29 09:04 stderr
-rw-r--r-- 1 hwr users 0 Nov 29 08:47 stdout
sh-2.05$
If I remember correctly both these occurences where during the "Writing
intelligently" pass.
Later it looked again correctly:
sh-2.05$ ls -l
insgesamt 2097153
-rw------- 1 hwr users 1073741824 Nov 29 09:36

-rw-r--r-- 1 hwr users 68 Nov 29 09:19 stderr
-rw-r--r-- 1 hwr users 0 Nov 29 08:47 stdout
sh-2.05$
I am using the i386_linux24 client from the CVS with large file support
(AFS_64BIT_CLIENT and AFS_64BIT_ENV set) on SuSE 7.3.
