Have you checked on osf1 -eh- dux -eh- tru64? I thought that kernel stuff
was compiled with cc -std0 which means K&R. I think standards.h defines
 __(x) to ()  in this case. I have not checked this with an actual compile,
but Mattias had the same opinion ;-)
