[OpenAFS-devel] Redhat 9 i386 problem with bzip2?

I just tried building the openafs 1.2.9 src rpm on redhat 9, and get a 
complaint that the bzip2 archives are corrupted.

In fact, the archives md5sum match exactly with the source distributions, 
and other bzip2 can decode the archives. So it looks like bzip2 doesn't 
work on RH9.   But googling doesn't reveal any reports of such. 

Has anyone experienced any strangeness with bzip2 on RH9?
