I'm guessing that you don't have a doc tree in your checkout at all, Close. The script actually handles that case properly, in fact my workaround was to rename doc to doc-. doc/man-pages existed but was empty. I'm not sure how that happened but "cvs up -PAd" fixed it. Thanks for your help. Another reason to do this in a Makefile is that it currently rebuilds everything (right?) even if it doesn't have to.
