[OpenAFS-devel] Announcement: Fourth AFS Hackathon, July 31st-August 2nd

Sine Nomine Associates, ITT Advanced Engineering & Sciences, and the US
Naval Research Laboratory are pleased to invite AFS developers to the
fourth AFS Hackathon, and the first one to be held in the United
States.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Hackathon is to provide an opportunity for AFS
developers to meet and collaborate on AFS-related code development and
enhancement projects.  While Anyone who has an interest in AFS is
welcome to attend, please note that the purpose of this intense
Hackathon meeting lies coding  and in very focused discussion on
technical issues with AFS, rather than being a general forum for AFS
users. (For such general user forum, please consider attending the AFS
Best Practices Workshop to be held this year in late June at the
University of Michigan).

TIME AND LOCATION: 
The Hackathon will be held in Reston, Virginia (near Washington, DC)
from July 31st through August 2nd, 2006.

REGISTRATION AND FEES: 
To register for the Hackathon, please send an email to:

At this time, we have not decided if their will be a registration fee.
If we do decide to have one, it will be just to recover costs for snacks
and should be in the order of $10-30 USD.  Should such an amount pose a
financial hardship, please honestly let us know; we do not want fees to
prevent anybody from participation.

AIR TRAVEL:
The closest airports are Dulles International Airport in Dulles, VA
(IAD), Reagan National Airport, Washington, DC (DCA), and Baltimore
Washington Airport (BWI), with the first one being the closest.  We will
try to assist you with travel from and to the airports where public
transport means leave off.  Driving directions to/from airports can be
provided upon request for those who wish to rent a car.

HOUSING: 
In your registration email, please state if you need assistance in
finding housing; "housing assistance" could range from a guest room
or couch at someone's home to assistance in finding a hotel near the
Hackathon site.  Please note that, if you were to stay at a hotel,
you should budget $100-130/night as minimum charges in this area; as
"room-pooling" might be an attractive option, please indicate whether
you would need to share a room to keep costs down, or volunteer to share
a room with somebody who might not be able to pay for a single room.
