I get this is still a work in progress, but is it possible to not have
buildbot mark a change as 'failed' if the failed step is git? (Or any
step before "compile", really; I'm not sure what they all might be) Even
if it's a legit failure because the repo is inaccessible for whatever
reason, the change shouldn't be "failed".

And thanks for the work on this! Buildbot already caught a legit build
error in 2506 that probably wouldn't have been noticed until after it
went in.
