Some parts of OpenAFS do not support pthreads yet in the stable
releases, so you can't just flip some flags and get it to work. Even in
the devel branch, pthreads support is being added but I don't think we
have a way to turn off LWP completely.

However, are you just trying to run a client? The parts that need LWP
the most are server-side processes, so it may be possible to hack
together something where you could get at least a minimally-functional
client going.
