Perhaps.  But I could easily see a sitation where the NetApps sit
"behind" the AFS servers and aren't "visible" from outside, either via
firewalls/packet filters or other means.

Ahh.  I certainlu never intended this in my original suggestion.  I
was intending a one-to-one mapping of CIFS share to Vice Partition.
