[OpenAFS] reauth.c not working under Linux

I'm migrating web servers to AFS, and for that I need something akin to the
old ('80's) reauth.c hanging around on the net. 

What I experienced is that the first time through, authentication works, but
when the daemon is forked it seems to have trouble sending the UDP packets -
an 'strace' of the process indicates that it never gets a response back. 

Is reauth.c still supposed to work? 

(in the meantime, a simple shell script that reads the password from stdin
does the job just as well - I was just curious for the reason :-))
