Hi,

I have had a problem for a long time in that I have not been able to do
vos backup on my home volume. The error message I got was something like
"Invalid cross-device link". I've tried to do a vos remove and vos zap
of the backup volume and the recreate it, but the problem still remains.

Today I tried by removing the volume header file (for the backup volume)
in /vicepa which resulted in that the RW-volume became corrupt. Now when
I do a bos salvage I get an output like this:

....
02/07/2002 20:03:59 Found 0 link count file
/vicepa/AFSIDat/A0/A0++U/+/+/s0+++68e.
02/07/2002 20:03:59 Found 0 link count file
/vicepa/AFSIDat/A0/A0++U/+/+/g++++gbi.
02/07/2002 20:03:59 Found 0 link count file
/vicepa/AFSIDat/A0/A0++U/+/+/f1++2c6=2.
02/07/2002 20:03:59 Found 0 link count file
/vicepa/AFSIDat/A0/A0++U/+/+/=2+++U183.
02/07/2002 20:03:59 Found 0 link count file
/vicepa/AFSIDat/A0/A0++U/+/+/90+++MH.
02/07/2002 20:04:01 SALVAGING VOLUME 536871052.
02/07/2002 20:04:01 home.lasse (536871052) updated 02/07/2002 17:47
02/07/2002 20:04:02 Cannot attach orphaned files and directories: Root
directory not found
02/07/2002 20:04:04 Found 61137 orphaned files and directories (approx.
1196834 KB)
02/07/2002 20:04:04 Salvaged home.lasse (536871052): 61137 files,
1196834 blocks

Now the question is, what is this root directory it complains about. Is
there anyway to save the data in this volume or is all lost?

Cheers,

Lars
