[OpenAFS] Load balanced Fileserver solution

I have been reading a little about AFS and would like to know if it would 
work in a balanced fileserver
situation.

Can I have two or more fileservers with the same data ..
How does replication work if any ...
What would happen if a server died, and the fileservers didnt have same data 
(ie not replicated)

I was originally going to use an NFS server .. but I found load balancing 
nfs a little difficult and expensive.

If anyone knows how I can achieve this goal .. please let me know .. I am 
open to any options.
