[OpenAFS] OpenAFS support plans for redhat and fedora

I think many are taking a wait-and-see attitude. We are currently
quite dependent on our linux servers for OpenAFS infrastructure. In
fact, at this point we are only 1/5th running on sun, Linux/Redhat has
always been easier to manage for this service. We keep the sun servers
in the cell simply for "variety"... I certainly dont intend to upgrade
to "Enterprise" redhat, i would have a hard time justifying it, esp when
other "free-er" options exist. I am cautiously optimistic that Fedora
will be able to fill this gap. But if not, i am prepared to switch
distro. In any event, i would like to see prebuilt binaries for major
fedora releases. I greatly appreciate the work the package maintainers
put it, it saves me work. I have (very) rarely had to build binaries
myself because of the high quality of work ALL of the openafs developers
produce. If it is an issue of resources, i may even be able to swing
some donations of hardware/compute time to support building for fedora.
(contact me privately)
As far as upgrades are concerned, I dont do them... I simply move all
the data off my file servers and blow then away... Our installs are
highly automated (ala kickstart and scripting) and we are basically
ready to move volumes back after 2 reboots... So the platform or
particular distro is meaningless...
