Symptom: While storing files in AFS from Windows (XP, SP1), a filename containing foreign-language characters is mangled. When you say "unicode" do you mean utf-8? Are the names stored correctly on the server? You should be able to check this from (for example) a linux client. That will at least tell us whether they are getting mangled on the way to the server or on the way back.
