  I patched as you requested. The transfer of data completes, but the file
is becoming silently corrupted now. Here's what Rudy is seeing:

+ cp -v /var/tmp/testfile/testfile.tar.gpg testfile.tar.gpg
`/var/tmp/testfile/testfile.tar.gpg' -> `testfil.tar.gpg'

real    5m34.475s
user    0m0.258s
sys     1m9.491s
+ ls -s testfile.tar.gpg
454402 testfile.tar.gpg
+ md5sum /var/tmp/testfile/testfile.tar.gpg testfile.tar.gpg
4298f65496aa6fffaa01da650c74e41a  /var/tmp/testfile/testfile.tar.gpg
5c85dbc1b02d106f749a116a81091460  testfile.tar.gpg
+ fs flush testfile.tar.gpg
+ md5sum testfile.tar.gpg
5c85dbc1b02d106f749a116a81091460  testfile.tar.gpg

The target directory is AFS (server is 1.2.11). Rudy also commented that
it took 5.5 minutes to copy the file which seems long. I'm going to guess
that this is a partial victory because there's no oops...
