no, because the file comes with every maintenance level update . you need=20
an afs version of the v3fshelper not the version , that cis part of the os =

. i think the guy , who setup the server once has copied it from the=20
original afs cd , i have no idea , if the old 3.5 version wil work or not=20
... sorry , somebody else has to answer that .

> > > > > > > > > Do I need to restart anything
once I've copied over the new
> > > > > > > >
> > > > > > > >
> > > > > > > >if you also use a client on the

> > > > > >.
> > > > > > > >if you just use it as a Server just

> > > >-localauth
> > > > > > > >-all
> > > > > > >
> > > > > > > I'd really like to avoid the reboot
if possible because this is
> >a
> > > > > >production
> > > > > > > machine. Is it at all possible just
to restart the client (afsd)
> > > > > >processes?
> > > > > > > I thought you could do that with the
new AFS?
> > > > > > >
> > > > > >
> > > > > >no , it=B4s not possible under aix , just under
linux ... (as far as
> >i
> > > >know)
> > > > > >
> > > > > >you can also leave the client running without
reboot.
> > > > > >i just don=B4t know the side effects off runni=
ng
an old Client
> > > > > >on the same System with an new Server. on
the other hand old
> >Clients
> > > > > >work perfectly with new servers , so a reboot
should not be needed
> >.
> > > > > >
> > > > >
> > > > > Thanks Sven - I'm going to try that and keep my
fingers crossed!
> > > > >
> > > > > By the way, (sorry last question!) the binaries
are scattered around
> >the
> > > >src
> > > > > directory. Is there an option like 'make install
binaries'!? or at
> >least
> > > >an
> > > > > easier way to upgrade rather than copying each
individual binary?
> > > > >
> > > >
> > > >make dest :-)
> > > >
> > >
> > > Argh! I have to ask you one more question (Sorry!!! I have
to get this
> >right
> > > or I'll be filling in my P45 tomorrow!) I've just realised
after doing
> >the
> >
> >what ever is a P45 ??
>
> It's the name of a tax form we have (in the UK) when we're made redund=
ant.
> Are there any jobs going at IBM incidentally?! (preferably not working
with
> AFS!)
>
> >
> > > make dest, I don't have any binaries called v3fshelper or
any of the
> >other
> > > binaries that appear under /sbin/helpers. Also do I need
to worry about
> >
> >hmm.. if a checkdisk runns across your afs partitions without
the right
> >v3fsheler file , it deletes you data if itr's not a NAMEI Server
:-)
> >
> >maybe you should google for one , because i have no version for
AIX 4.3.3
> >i think there is a problem with the copyright , that's while it's
not in
> >the source code .
>
> Do you think it would be OK to use the v3fshelper file that's already
under
