[OpenAFS] windows AFSclient asks VLDB-server for krb-tokens

I just red some papers from the AFSBestPractices workshop from slac.

I red the 2 windowspapers and i do not see the following issue addressed.
I would like to know if this problem is solved already but i just dont know
about it.

Here is the case:

The windowsclient in Windows XP (Openafs 1.3.61) still asks the
VLDB-servers for kerberostickets. For that reason we used to run
forwarder-processes on all VLDB-servers that forward the krb-questions to
the real KDC's.

My questions are:

1) do other people expierience this problem or am i hallucinating ?
2) how do other people solve this issue ?
3) do i really need my forwarders anymore, or are there other options ?
