You can setup a windows workstation to authenticate against a MIT or
Heimdal KDC
as a standalone workstation provided you do not have a domain.
If you do have a domain, you can configure a cross-realm trust
relationship between the
Windows KDC and the MIT/Heimdal KDC to allow you to login using principals
belonging to the MIT/Heimdal realm.
With recent builds of MIT/Heimdal Kerberos distributions you can use RC4
keys
for all principals which must interoperate with Windows. However, for
the cross
realm trust you must only use DES-CBC-MD5 keys because Windows 2000/2003
do not support RC4 for this purpose.
