As I always say: try the 1.3.81-3 packages in the testing or unstable part of
debian. Yes, they are not experimentel anymore. For me they work great.
And have a look at your kernel config, not to active SMP AND peemptive, or
activate both at once. Than make-kpkg built your new kernel and the afs package
afterward and install and reboot, should work.
