And I'm still stuck with my first write on UP. Additional observations:

- The data written by the hanging process becomes visible on
   other clients immediately.

- It seems once this has hung for long enough, other writes afterwards
   succeed.

- gdb -p says all hanging processes get stuck here:

   #0  0x0082a7a2 in _dl_sysinfo_int80 () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2

- Quitting gdb, and detaching from the hanging process, breaks whatever
   lock this is, and afterwards things seem ok. I can even cleanly stop
   AFS. And start it again.

And then everything repeats...
