Lars, FWIW, I've done pretty much the same thing with OpenAFS on Gentoo.
Rolled my own ebuilds but they're ugly hacks that I'm not comfortable
releasing; they work for me with some tinkering, but it's really just a
slightly easier way of building the sources from scratch  and installing
more or less according to the IBM AFS docs than a simple install.  I'm
running 1.2.13 on kernel 2.4.26-gentoo-r9 (server and client) and 1.3.77
on kernel 2.6.9-gentoo-r1 (client only).  I tried 1.3.79 on 2.6.10 but
had very slow copies to the volumes hosted by this machine as well as
kernel oops in doing so.

Stefaan says he has 1.3.79 running on 2.6.11-gentoo-r2 which I think
I'll try myself since he reports stable operation for >2months.

Sergio, what is BTS?
