 	Hello ,

[1.] One line summary of the problem:

Oopses on an openafs client system using openafs 1.3.78 and kernel 2.4.29.
Oopses also occur afer moving to kernel 2.4.30 and openafs 1.3.82

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:

My openafs enabled slackware 10.1 system oopsed 4 times during a
40+ days of uptime period. The first 3 oopses went undetected because of
no visible side effects , but the 4th froze the system. Those were with
2.4.29 vanilla kernel and openafs 1.3.78 . After moving to 2.4.30 and
1.3.82 , two oopses that lead to a system freeze occured within the first
24 hours of uptime. Mediocre read/write operations take place in the openafs
filesystem by the client 24h/day (at around 2Mbytes/sec average),mostly
rsync/ftp. System is a dual PIII at 600 Mhz , 768 RAM

Most of the oopses seem to happen then the openafs server in
the cell that I use mostly restarts. ( 4 am)

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):

openafs 1.3.78 1.3.82 , vanilla kernel 2.4.29 2.4.30 , SMP

[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):

for 2.4.30 :

Linux version 2.4.30 (root@system) (gcc version 3.3.4) #1 SMP Wed May 4
15:10:58 EEST 2005

for 2.4.29:

Linux version 2.4.29 (root@system) (gcc version 3.3.4) #1 SMP Sun Mar 1
10:29:35 EEST 2005

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
      resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)

   From 2.4.29 and openafs 1.3.78:

ksymoops 2.4.11 on i686 2.4.30. Options used
      -V (default)
      -k /proc/ksyms (default)
      -l /proc/modules (default)
      -o /lib/modules/2.4.30/ (default)

Warning: You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will
assume that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running
right now and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.

In about 10 hours I will know if the system freeze will occur
again in the first 24 hours after the last reboot.
I would say that it just doesnt want the openafs server to go away
while writing in one of its volumes. I have been seeing similar behaviour
since 2.4.20 with openafs 1.3.x , but on a system too old an unstable on
its own to rely on it for a report.

If you reply pls CC me.

 	Best regards,
