[OpenAFS] "corrupted fonts" on OS X 10.4

I'm trying to move the home directories in a mac lab (10.4.6, i think.
10.4, anyhow.) from NFS to AFS.  I installed OpenAFS 1.4.1 and
everything seemed fine.

Until I started Microsoft Office.  Apparently Word installs all the
fonts into the user's home directory.  I quit Word then started it
again, and was greeted by "The font _____ is corrupt and should be
removed."  One at a time, for each font installed.

Can anyone shed some light on this behavior?
