Hi:

I tried installing OpenAFS on RHEL3.0.4 machine - both the client and
server parts.=20

The configuration is confusing to me:
Here is what I have so far(I have been working as root as along):

[root@cosmlxas1 logs]# bos status cosmlxas1.hamptonu.edu
bos: no such entry (getting tickets)
bos: running unauthenticated
Instance kaserver, currently running normally.
Instance buserver, currently running normally.
Instance ptserver, currently running normally.
Instance vlserver, currently running normally.
Instance fs, currently running normally.
Auxiliary status is: file server running.

I can't seem to mount my user directories well.

vos create cosmlxas1.hamptonu.edu vicepa user.lsorrillo -maxquota 500000
vsu_ClientInit: Could not get afs tokens, running
unauthenticated.
Volume 536870918 created on partition /vicepa of
cosmlxas1.hamptonu.edu

Here is the output for the VolLog:

free(): invalid pointer 0xb7528010!
S Volserver 2.0 (/usr/afs/bin/volserver)
Wed May 31 18:37:32 2006 1 Volser: CreateVolume: volume 536870918
(user.sorrillo) created
[root@cosmlxas1 logs]#

Trying to create mount points, firsta rw mount:

[root@cosmlxas1 logs]# fs mkmount /afs/.hamptonu.edu/usr/lsorrillo
user.sorrillo
fs: mount points must be created within the AFS file system

and a read mount

[root@cosmlxas1 logs]# fs mkmount /afs/.hamptonu.edu/usr/lsorrillo
user.sorrillo
fs: mount points must be created within the AFS file system

Here is what is in the authentication server:

[root@cosmlxas1 logs]# kas -cell hamptonu.edu -noauth
ka> examine sorrillo

User data for sorrillo (ADMIN)
  key (0) cksum is 713139843, last cpw: Wed May 31 18:22:42 2006
  password will never expire.
An unlimited number of unsuccessful authentications is permitted.
entry never expires. Max ticket lifetime 25.00 hours.
last mod on Wed May 31 18:23:09 2006 by <none>
  permit password reuse
ka> examine admin

Here is what is in the Protection server:
[root@cosmlxas1 logs]# pts membership sorrillo hamptonu.edu -noauth
pts: User or group doesn't exist so couldn't look up id for hamptonu.edu
Groups sorrillo (id: 501) is a member of:
  system:administrators
[root@cosmlxas1 logs]#

User Sorrillo has uid 500 and group id 500 I don't believe that there is
a AFS group id of 500.

I am very troubled that I cannot mount home directories...can someone
help?

~Lawrence

On Solaris, I've had this problem before and think I decided it was
either
a hard disk controller or hard disk problem (more likely with the
onboard
memory than with the physical media, I expect). But it was just once,
and
a long time ago.
