OpenAFS community members,
It is with sadness that I must share with you the passing of Kevin
McBride. Kevin was an employee of End Point Corporation and while in
the overall life of OpenAFS only a brief contributor to the project,
he was recently involved in several projects intended to improve the
performance and maintainability of OpenAFS.
Highlights of Kevin's AFS contributions:
- An SNMP MIB has been developed for use as part of the AFS
instrumentation framework presented at the 2007 AFS Best Practices
Workshop. Kevin reviewed and restructured the SNMP MIB for AFS
Instrumentation. The original design was good, but Kevin had the
knowledge and
experience to know what was missing, and provided crucial guidance and
feedback as the work progressed.
- OpenAFS 1.5 recently received a contribution of a pthreaded ubik
interface for servers and clients. Kevin did substantially all of the
coding involved in this project.
- In addtion, he had done bug investigation, and in conjunction with
that, provided the --enable-debug option to OpenAFS' configure, to
make it easier for anyone to gather debugging information.
I'm told a memorial will be placed on the End Point website
(http://www.endpoint.com) when more details are available.
Kevin will be missed.
