I presume someone has tried building the linux openafs client for the  
ESX service console?

the idea scares me but it might work...

I'm pretty sure ESX can mount NFS volumes, although i haven't done it.

perhaps you can set up another node as an afs-nfs
translator, presuming that code still works.
