We moved to Centos (another RHEL clone) for the same reasons. We have
experience of SL too because some grid stuff is made so dumb it does
not even "want" to be ported to Centos. But for everyday use SL is
just too conserative and limping behind (you'll notice when the next
kernel security hole comes around).
