My guess is that you have applications which have files or directories (pwd?) open in AFS which have not quit when the AFS shutdown arrives. In the past, this has been a problem. 1. Can you somehow verify that there are or are not such hanging processes? 2. Can OpenAFS exit in spite of such processes being around? Harald.
