Well, I'm sure it will aid in understanding the 1.4 situation, but
whether it will actually help solve your problem I'm not sure (it could
be an unfixable bug or lack-of-functionality in netfilter, for all I
know). It shouldn't be that many packets, though, if you can filter for
packets to/from a specific mostly-idle client.

Yes, none of this is very relevant for 1.6. If you want to look at the
situation in 1.6 and beyond, you'll need to be running a 1.6 fileserver
first. We can give you a 1.6 patch now or later on, if you want.
