I see, I had the sense that SineNomine worked closely with the OpenAFS
elders...and I thought it would be confusing for people if I opened up
an issue in both places, but I can do that in future.  In the case of
these 2 tickets, they were opened 3 years ago and Derrick was involved.
I thought it came down to a rework of rx which is a huge undertaking.
But, any possible help, like your other suggestion which I know has
not been vetted, would be more than welcome.
