[OpenAFS] Re: Upgrading An OpenAFS Server

Sorry for not being more specific. Yes, I'm upgrading a Debian/OpenAFS ser=
ver. Fortunately this is a hobby machine at home, not a production server =
with multiple high-end clients (that's my day job, with Windows ;)

I'm currently copying all my own data over to another server (whole differe=
nt system), in case I botch it. I've only done one OpenAFS install and con=
fig, and I remember it seeming like it was going to be a very painstaking p=
rocess but was pleasantly surprised that it was not so. Still, it's one of=
those things that "just works" at home, and aside from doing some basic us=
er and file management I haven't had to do much.

I remember having an issue with journaling, and I think I wound up turning =
that off on my filesystem. Another, a topic for another day perhaps.

Thanks.

P.S. Switched to plain text, hoping that it alleviates some of the text wei=
rdness I seem to get when posting on this forum.

Wondering if anyone can offer advice as to how best upgrade OpenAFS on Debi=
=3D
an 5.0.2.=3DA0 The OpenAFS kernel module package is listed as openafs-modul=
es=3D
-2.6.26-2-486.

Should I upgrade Linux first, then OpenAFS?=3DA0 Or vice versa?=3DA0 Anothe=
r op=3D
tion would be to build a new server, but I'm wondering which would be the l=

ess convoluted path.

Any tutorials or information you can point me to is appreciated.

If you build a second server you will not need any down time.=A0 You get
the second server working and vos move everything there.=A0 Then
shutdown or rebuild the first server.=A0 It makes sense to just upgrade
the first server and keep it.=A0 Then next time you want to upgrade it
is a lot less work.=A0 If you do it this way you will want to use Russ
Allbery's mvto:
