As I understand it, this still needs a krb524d service.

I would rather see something that uses the new "2b" protocol
that uses krb5 tickets in the ordinary afs protocol (works
with servers from 1.2.8 IIRC). This way we could skip krb4
completely.

I a long time ago built an alternative afslog loginlogout
plugin that uses the MIT krbafs library. We need that since
we use the Arla and not the OpenAFS client and didn't want
to link to OpenAFS libraries. It is a minimum of wrapper code
around the krbafs library. krbafs is supposed to work with
both Arla and OpenAFS. A fix for using 2b in krbafs would
hopefully make this plugin use 2b more or less automatically.
