The folks at e.kth.se on 5.something. The struct describing the
syscalls changed. If anyone knows how the values of this struct really
should be set, let us know. Then there were some minor linking errors
(multiple defined symbols). I do not remember if the guys finnaly
succeeded to build a new kernel with the afs syscall defined.

pdc.kth.se has Alphas as AFS servers and clients, too. What about your
site?
