The one reason to be careful of that is that it is extremely common for
people to run mixed cells of older and newer servers.  If the addition of
that sort of compilation flag causes a backward-incompatible change in
something like the ptserver database format such that one cannot combine
older and newer servers safely, it still may be reasonable to make it the
default, but it needs to be VERY CLEARLY stated in the release notes that
a default compile will not safely interoperate with older versions
(whether that be older file servers, older ptservers, what have you).
