Should I smell conspiracy in the fact that he is a contributor to kAFS?
In particular it could be construed easily as "I will screw your competing 
implementation". Maybe there's a better story than that. I'd like to hear 
it.

Sure. And Troy can't commit, isn't an elder, and thus can't really speak 
for the project, either, and yet, lots of people who don't have had their 
comments interpreted as holding some weight and things have been 
counterproductive for it. So, if he can basically cause us problems by 
speaking his opinion, that speaks for the fragility of what's going on.

Obviously that's been covered. But, if they did it would cover only v1.0.
