Well, "breaks". It pulls extra data instead of a command actually
failing, and in theory the number of builds pulling extra stuff would go
away very quickly. But... it's also much less visible and hammers the
server when it "breaks".

I was thinking doing that could reduce maintenance burden for slaves,
but... yeah. I agree neither way seems great, so "whatever". potayto
potahto.
