[OpenAFS] Stat cache slowness on RH 7.1?

Hi,

I've got a laptop running RH 7.1 and it appears that the AFS stat
cache is being REALLY slow.  It seems to take a very long time to,
say, autocomplete, or perform any other function that requires stat()
on an uncached file.  But this only happens the 'first' time -- once
the information is in the stat cache, lookups are really fast.

This certainly happens with 1.0.4.  I don't know if it happens with
1.1.1.  Mostly, I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this
problem?

The laptop in question is a ThinkPad A22m.  It doesn't matter whether
I use a Lucent 802.11 card or a 3com 10Base-T card.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

PS: Yes, this is reproducible; all I need to do is reboot the
machine and the slowness returns until the stat cache is filled
again.
