AW: [OpenAFS] OpenAFS for x86 Solaris 8

Hi there,

you can actually get the compiler form sun. For free. For 30 days.

I did compile a openafs-client on solaris 8 intel. It worked pretty
neat, after i downloaded the trial compiler from sun and the
http://www.openafs.org/dl/openafs/1.3.2/openafs-1.3.2-src.tar unstable
release.

1.2.5 didn't work for me. I had to tweak some shell variables like
"setenv CP cp" but I guess that depends on how many gnu utils you got. I
got none, so I have to fake a little bit.

Bye, ruby

We got patches from someone who claimed to have tried them, so I'll have
to go with no. I could believe I was mistaken and it worked with gcc on
x86 (it is known to not work on sparc) but I doubt it.

By implication you're saying "the current version isn't available so no
version ever was"?

http://www.faqs.org/faqs/Solaris2/x86/FAQ/ question 6.30 implies
otherwise.

I don't know anything about compiler availability from Sun, current or
otherwise, so I can't really comment meaningfully on that. I don't have
a Solaris x86 machine, but clearly it was/is useful to someone. We can
probably arrange at minimum for a binary build of the next version, and
when I have a minute I can inquire as to the what and how of building
this.
