Hiho!

You describe two Different problems (i think):

I see that too (Problem Number 1), and i could not solve it as yet,
however:

No, i guess it's not, at least not with kdm (I know, you use gdm, but
they seem to be similar in that respect).

This is the second Problem (believe me!).

I guess your home directory is system:anyuser l (as it should be,
imho).

At least kdm stores the last session in a file called ~/.wmrc in your
home directory. Kdm definitely succeeds to write this file (!), so i guess
the token is not being thrown away before logout (or before all data
is written to the home directory). An strace confirms this.

However gdm cannot read the file. You have to move in into a
subdirectory of your home (i like to call this ~/.readable), make it
readable for system:anyuser and then symlink it to ~/.wmrc. This is
how i get the "Last Session" option in kdm to work.

I guess the process with gdm will be similar, but i just don't know
which file it writes to (Maybe to ~/.gnome/gdm, but i'm not sure).
