I have some more data on this problem.

The hang lasts about 8.5 minutes.

I uninstalled AFS and the problem went away. I reinstalled (this time I
deselected the two drive mapping options) and the problem returned. I
disabled the "IBM AFS Client" service and rebooted, but the problem
persisted. So I am pretty sure it has something to do with the AFS
installation.

I've tried doing an "fs trace -dump" across this logon hang, but I can't
find any definite corrolation. This probably only confirms that it
isn't anything caused by actual AFS traffic.

If AFS integrates with logoff to destroy tokens, does it also hookup to
logon, even when I have "obtain AFS tokens when logging into Windows"
unchecked? What does typing "Control-Alt-Del" actually do in Windows?
What kind of interrupt does it generate and what sort of activity would
this abort?
