[OpenAFS] do I need tcpip on the loopback?

I am attempting to streamline and standardize and openafs 1.2.10
installation and would like to use the loopback adapter for all the
reasons it exists. I'm just wondering though, since openafs using its
own smb server to capture file service requests, and since it is smb
based, do I need tcpip on it? ie, can I just do standard
netbeui/netbios on the loopback.
