You may want to look into what's causing so much space before you try
just plopping it into AFS. /var/ on my debian box doesn't seem too
large. Are you sure it's not just the apt archives? Try 'apt-get clean'
to get rid of them. (Otherwise, just du -h /var to see what's taking up
so much space.)
