I do not know *what* famd is complaining about (the error message above is
not very informative), but I will certainly not use memcache. I would very
much like to use memcache on those few machines with plenty of memory to
spare, but on some machines there is simply no RAM to waste. Besides
memcache gave me oopses earlier and until someone claims it actually
works, I will not even try. Thanks for the suggestion, anyway!

Someone suggested gamin and that's where I'll look next. Still did not
find the time for it, though.
