Hi,

Perhaps Mickey might have been (or, suppose I had asked the question) asking about these routines specifically.  Depending on the code, you might have easily have written, "It's obsolete.  Feel free to send a changeset removing it."), no?  Or elaborated on why it may become useful in the future.
