It probably is a variant of the same problem the stanford pages describe, but I'm not positive. you can gather more information by running fs_usage in a terminal window at the same time you perform the failing delete operation. Moving files between volumes is unlikely to be possible unless the finder is able to deal with the error returned by afs.
