I have both of those set as defaults in the NetBSD pkgsrc OpenAFS
package. I never attempted to use the inode server on NetBSD, I
assumed it wasn't usable. Large file support is also working fine on
NetBSD OpenAFS servers.

I don't know what things look like on FreeBSD, but I'd guess it's
about the same, and so at least for the BSDs it wouldn't be
unreasonable to change.
