"IBM AFS Quick Beginnings" is a step-by-step "type this at the prompt"
kind of description:

Only source of problem I had: Replace localhost/localdomain in
/etc/hosts for 127.0.0.1 by your own hostname.  Altough the OpenAFS
installation will work fine you'll find your clients talking to
127.0.0.1 after first talking to your new server.  Fixing /etc/hosts
after the installation is not enough. I removed all AFS related stuff
on the server and did the installation again with the correct
/etc/hosts and since then things work fine.
