We got patches from someone who claimed to have tried them, so I'll have
to go with no. I could believe I was mistaken and it worked with gcc on
x86 (it is known to not work on sparc) but I doubt it.

By implication you're saying "the current version isn't available so no
version ever was"?

I don't know anything about compiler availability from Sun, current or
otherwise, so I can't really comment meaningfully on that. I don't have a
Solaris x86 machine, but clearly it was/is useful to someone. We can
probably arrange at minimum for a binary build of the next version, and
when I have a minute I can inquire as to the what and how of building
this.
