[OpenAFS] partition recovery(sic) - Was:Volumes lost on fileserver

Well as it turned out the underylying problem was a hardware failure on
the relevant partitions, about .02% bad blocks in one case, 1% (mostly
all in one large segment) in another

I'm running openafs 1.2.8 on se-linux, out of habit I don't run fsck on
my vice* partitions from back when it was not safe to use.

In both cases I've been able to use dd_rescue to copy the partitions to files,
run fsck which dumped all of the files into /lost+found. Fortunately for the
most critical data (mh mail data) I can recover/sort/refile all of the lost
data. On the other partition, it's not going to be so simple and I haven't
decided what to do with that one yet.

Anyhow I don't think any of the (excellent) recovery suggestions proffered
are going to help much in this instance. Luckily to the extent I can sort
out the bad file I can recover and just make new partitions / volumes and
recover most of the data from backup

thanks for the info to all on mr-afs
